Natural Split Serpentine

“Natural split” serpentine has extremely high compression strength, is exceptionally resistant to atmospheric agents and even has significant bending strength. Its surface is rough but not disjointed. It is composed of antigorite, olivine, magnetite, chlorite and pyroxene, the interweaving of which determines the physical-mechanical properties of the rock, and in particular the capacity to split into thin, flat sheets (piode), used principally for roofing.

Pioda: Why you should use it Pioda is the best material in the world for making roofs. Thanks to its peculiar physical properties, it fully responds to the strength and longevity requirements that roofing has to possess. Moreover, its extreme durability means that the costs realising or refurbishing the roof have to be faced only once, which leads to significant cost savings in the long run. By virtue of its longevity, natural split serpentine does not deteriorate and can be used over and over again without ever having to be disposed of as waste.
Using natural split serpentine means using a certified material, guaranteed by reliable studies and information. The manual element in the working of natural split serpentine is still a fundamental aspect, and the skills of the stonecutters and layers always guarantee an exceptionally high quality finished product.
Natural split serpentine is an entirely “made in Italy” product, typical of the Valmalenco district. Choosing this material means trusting in a long-standing crafting tradition, deeply rooted in the socio-economic culture of Northern Italy.
